Hilliard's 9.11 Memorial

On September 11, 2010, Hilliard dedicated a park in historic downtown Hilliard that contains a dramatic and solemn memorial to the events of September 11, 2001. The park is called "First Responders Park Memorial." It is one of the largest memorials in the country to pay tribute to first responders everywhere, vowing that "we will never forget."

Featured in the park is a reflecting pool, 3 memorial walls with the names of all the victims of that day. The main focus of the park however, is the stark twisted beams from ground zero.

Sculpture

Detail of sculpture created by local artist Dale Johnson. The sculture is made of cast and fabricated stainless steel that graphically represents hundreds of individual castings that were then welded together. Each of the figures represents an individual who was there. The fact that 13 percent of the people who died at 9/11 were first responders has been translated into the sculpture with 13 percent of the figures being first responders.
